ABOUT US: We have enjoyed raising and showing a few dogs for over 20 years. I showed in obedience before we had kids and our family has showed in 4-H.
We hunt for a couple of months each fall but mostly just enjoy being around great looking intelligent dogs with pleasant, easygoing temperaments.
Mary Jo & I, along with our family live on a secluded 40-acre wooded hobby farm north of Milaca, MN. We are AKC inspected and in excellent standing.
PUPPIES ARE BORN IN THE HOUSE where they are weighed and handled daily. When we are sure all is well with mom and they are growing well, we move them to a roomy kennel in our barn that has an outside run to give them exposure to our farm animals, along with the sounds and smells of the outdoors.
We bring a few of them in our house each day to socialize and expose them to the noise and smells of the house, play fetch with a paint roller, tennis ball or pheasant wing and introduce them to a porta-kennel. We strongly feel all the extra effort we put in socialization at an early age makes for a well-adjusted puppy.
SELECTING THE CORRECT TEMPERMENT: Labrador Retrievers are best known for their versatility. They range from couch potatoes to extremely active, outgoing, field trial dogs. Because of this versatility, the wrong dog can easily go into the wrong home.
If you are looking for an active hunting dog, FC (Field Champion) and HT (Hunt Test) titles can be an indicator of a great hunting dog. Hunt Test dogs are generally the higher energy dogs. If you’re looking for a family companion, CH (Champion placing in Conformation) can be an indicator of a calmer temperament.
British or English Labs tend to have shorter stature blockier build. Depending on the lines, they often have a calmer temperament and are more responsive to direction. All our puppies have British/English influence in their bloodlines. Repeat breeding, visiting the parents and contacting references are a good way to help insure you find a dog that best fits your lifestyle.
